March 6, 2011- Critique

March 6, 2011 
Essential Questions:

How do artists actively participate in a critique?
What skills were learned using PhotoShop?           

1.  DIN: Turn in your JPG version of your tutorial by email.  (See last class post).  You will have 8 minutes to accomplish this. 

LOG OFF and turn off your monitor.

2.   Participate in the critique.You will be graded on your participation.

     Critique prompt questions:   (ask the Essential Questions from each class period)

Vocab: Art elements, compositional techniques, principles of design, Surrealism, scale, juxtaposition, tools:  marquee, magic wand, selection, transform, distort, perspective, warp, layers, proportion 

Why did you choose this tutorial?
Which pieces are most successful?
What techniques in Photoshop can you identify and describe in these pieces?
How can you see the skills you used work for you in other projects?                                  

3.    HW:  Self Assessment online:  If you do not have computer access by next class, take home a hard copy of the self assessment.  Due May 10, 2011

How can Photoshop help you create a Surrealist piece?
What makes your piece Surreal?

1)  Continue with your tutorial.   Do not delay.  If you do not complete it you will need to catch up during a study hall and/or Study and Support. ASK for help if you need it.  Please do not wait and mention your difficulties in your TOD.

April 28, 2011- Surrealist Tutorial and Dali

 Essential Questions:
How will you use Photoshop to create your Surrealist image?
Who was Salvador Dali?  Describe his work.

     DIN:        Go to Google Images to see another Surrealist artist, Salvador Dali's work.  Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvador_Dal%C3%AD and scan to learn more about him.  Complete question at Classwork:  Which Dali piece do you like the best?  Give label information:  Title, year,  medium, size and location.

      Continue working on your tutorial.  You will only have one class period left.  Do not waste time.  If you are behind you need to come during study hall and/or Study and Support. 

      TOD:   at Classwork, answer 2 questions. 
HW:  ongoing-  check out the self assessment, so you know how you will be graded.  Keep track of your grades and see me if you think there is a discrepancy.  I can show you the submissions I received.

 

           Winged Boot project gradient tool help:  Double click on the gradient rectangle.  Change colors (that go with your background), but do not use WHITE.  You can delete the color squares. Move the color squares around...
Touch the middle of your background with the tool and then touch the outside of the image.  It will create that radial gradient. 


 

April 26, 2011 Surrealist Tutorial

   Essential Question:
How will you use Photoshop to create your Surrealist image?

     DIN:  Select which of your own photos you will use for the tutorial.

      Begin working on your tutorial :  50% of the photographs used in the tutorial with have to be photos that you have taken.  You will see that there are links to the photos needed for the tutorials.  SAVE your project to your Z drive as lastnamesurrtuteblock# and save frequently! 

       Change dimensions to:   for all tutes----- 2000 x 2000 pixels , 300 dpi
                                                    

TOD:   What tools have you learned to use?  What did you accomplish today?

      Homework:  review the Self Assessment for this project so that you are aware of what you will be graded on.  Make sure you notice the list of Project Requirements.

      Check your grades for this marking period regularly.  Classwork grades are based on what is submitted to me through the blog.  Zeroes need to be made up within 2 days.

Critique and Self Assessment: April 11th, 2011


Essential Questions:
How does an artist critique works of photography?  What topics are shared?
How did you use Photoshop and ImageReady to create art?
How do you self assess and write about your own work?


1. DIN:  Give Mrs. Thomas your animation by passing her your flash drive.
2. Participate in our Critique using the projector.
            What elements of art and principles of design can be identified?, Talk about the steps to complete the assignment.  Talk about the areas of improvement and positive aspects of the images.  How was Hockney and Cubism referenced?.....
3.  TOD:  Participation check off and complete Self Assessment.

Hey, guys, consider sending out to Walmart.com or Kodak to order prints of your images.  Sometimes they are on sale for 9 or 10 cents a photo.  Make sure they are JPEG's not Photoshop format.  They would make great gifts even in a small format.
